NOW HIRING: Cafe’ Kitchen Shift Lead
The Fountain on Locust is looking for a new Shift Lead to add to its talented kitchen team. The Fountain is a St. Louis landmark and a special occasion restaurant. Our dishes are part of some of the most important nights in peoples' lives - from graduation parties to engagements or a night out at the theater. We are looking for team members to put love and skill into every dish they cook.
The ideal person for this role will learn all roles in the Back of House - prep, dish, hotline, cold line, and catering - and will be able to confidently lead the kitchen during their shifts. This person will act as a floating support and manager during shifts as a shift leader and will be expected to hold employees to our high standards for service and quality while supporting them to ensure they can be successful.
Applicants should be hard-working, fast on their feet, quality-oriented, coachable, and willing to learn. We are looking for talent that can work a mix of days and nights, who is a team player with a demonstrated history of kitchen success.
Kitchen team members are responsible for delivering food that is not only delicious and cooked to the specifications of our standards, but that is fresh and safe as well. They will be trained to:
>Ensure that recipes are followed closely
>Ensure ingredients are fresh and accurate
>Bake, grill, steam, and boil
>Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes
>Occasionally serve food
>Maintain a clean and safe work area, including proper handling of utensils, equipment, and dishes.
Pay starts at $16-$18/hour commensurate with experience. Pay increases will be given as additional skills are learned through training. Preferred candidates will be able to:
Be reliable, always on time, always present for shifts.
Conduct basic food preparation, including washing and cutting produce, preparing meats, and mixing ingredients.
Plate meals with appealing visual presentation before waitstaff collect them for customers.
Ensure that all kitchen supplies are properly stocked and stored.
Maintain a clean work environment, including washing dishes, scrubbing floors, and sanitizing equipment.
Setup the kitchen before opening hours with the appropriate supplies and equipment, and properly store them at the end of each night.
At least 2 years of previous experience in the food service industry.
The ability to work on your feet for long hours.
Familiarity with kitchen equipment and proper safety protocols
Paid time off is available, accrues from day 1, and can be taken at 1 year of service.
Preference given to candidates with ServSafe Certification.
